about

Jääportit finished its second full-length album for the summer of 2004. Solitary student of the occult art of music-making Tuomas M. Mäkelä has laboured to produce one hour’s worth of original depth-atmosphere in the remotest landscapes of music and sound.

Uumenissa contains sounds gathered from various routes around the worlds and woven together utilizing divers synthesizers, sequencers, organs, the mellotron & other electronic devices, and naturally the Northern soundscape – during various times and spaces in the period from 1999 to 2004. Thus long took it to ripen the song-patterns to their fairest fruitation, as the voyage starting from nothing ends in nothing.

The unspoken story of the album could tell about bringing to order, in the depths of the universe, Nature’s four basic elements with the human mind making its decisions in the midst of Reality.
The tales on the album are certain obscure patterns in the mirror of life, formations under the surface, glances from the aquarium, motions in the quicksand, the chaos of the existential state and the rhythm of purification in the deep blue yonder of spatial echo.

Influences to the music have been, among others, the mystical essence of Nature, the importance of being, the difficulty of ceasing, forgotten dreams.

Recommended for listening in a peaceful state, during dreamlike moments, with an understanding mind and body – with thought and without any – in nature or unnaturally – whether it’s fair or foul. The beautiful watercolour-painted album covers point the way.
